Our Story

Rebuilt from two members to a competition-ready team — driven by creativity, resourcefulness, and engineering grit.

About Baja SAE

The world's toughest engineering classroom

Baja SAE is an international collegiate design competition created and run by the Society of Automotive Engineers. It challenges student teams to design, build, and race a single-seater, off-road vehicle — taking it through rigorous design evaluations, brutal terrain, and a 4-hour endurance race.

It is one of the most valuable and immersive learning opportunities in undergraduate engineering. We manage a full product lifecycle: we build the car ourselves, test ideas, solve mechanical and manufacturing problems, and then take our design on the road.

About the Team

Resilient by design

We are a driven, resilient team on an upward trajectory. CCNY Racing is a small, tight-knit Baja SAE team with a big future. In 2023, after shrinking to just two members, we rebuilt from the ground up.

In October 2025, that work paid off when we passed tech inspection at Baja SAE South Carolina and finished 43rd overall in our first dynamic events in more than six years.

What sets us apart is our creativity and resourcefulness. We manufacture nearly everything in-house — from welding and fabrication to machining and assembly. This keeps us cost-efficient and gives our team valuable hands-on engineering experience. Supporting us means backing students who have already proven they can build, innovate, and compete.

About the Car

Engineered to perform

We're introducing a custom drivetrain with a 3:1 gear ratio, a new gearbox built for 100 N·m input torque, and a wide-range CVT. The redesigned chassis cuts weight by 13% and improves driver ergonomics. We also increased ride height by 75% without losing stability or cornering performance.

  • Custom CV drivetrain with 3:1 differential ratio
  • New gearbox rated for 100 N·m input torque
  • 13% lighter, redesigned 4130 chromoly chassis
  • 75% greater ride height — same stability and cornering

Nearly everything, in-house

From welding and fabrication to machining and assembly, we manufacture almost every part of our car ourselves. It keeps us cost-efficient, but more importantly it builds well-rounded engineers — students who have actually cut, welded, turned, and assembled the things they design.

Our size is our advantage: every member works across multiple subsystems and contributes wherever they're needed.
